It has Been a bit since I have been on
since then, I have had lots of shoots, and am learning more each shoot. I have also started a blog on another site. On it I will post more of my pics, and probable say a lot less. For now i will share some pics of a shoot I did this summer with my cousins. I hope you will enjoy, and I will list the link to my new blog site.

A Day at Dunns River Falls..

Well hello everybody! As mentioned in my previous post, my family and I are on the beautiful island of Jamaica! We just recently went on a wonderful adventure to a popular tourist spot, Dunns River Falls!!! It was wonderful, and at the same time and adventure that had me at times clinging for my life! These falls are serious! The falls were truly breath taking and revitalizing at the same time. I will not spend to much time talking technical with you guys while on vacation, I will just let the photos do all of the talking. We will resume all technical aspects of this photography journey, when I return to the states. For now it is time for me to get back to relaxing, and trying to share my trip through my lens with you all.

First day! Yikes

Welcome Back everyone! Guess what, (ok you say what first......ok lol) I am on vacation!!! So that means two things! One you are on vacation with me, and two, I am going to try to take some amazing pictures!! Oh Wait! I'm in Jamaica!! Ya Mon! (terrible impression, but you get it lol) So far it has been fun, except for the first day, boy did it rain!! Alas the sun came out, and I am set to take some wonderful pics for you. So for the next few weeks this Poor man's Photography

Time for the Quick Shoot

Well Hello my friends, I have returned to share yet another installment of this Poor Man's attempt at photography. In this segment I wanted to share with you my attempts at a quick shoot, that led to a new project for me. 
A few days ago, my cousin calls me and shares that she needs some shots and a model composite card for an interview. My cousin as you can see is a very beautiful young lady, and she has garnered the attention of those who capture beauty as a living. I immediately responded yes, but was slammed with the reality that I really had to come correct, so that my little cousin was represented well. Ok so of course there has to be a challenge
 
to all of this. One we had only one day in the week to do it, the second challenge was, I have never made a composite card ever in my life! I jump at my resources and hit up my long time friend, fellow Pk, and photographer, Jason of JTI Photography ask him what the heck is this mystery. He explained that it is a models resume, consisting of a head shot on one side, and several pictures on the back, showing the range of the model, their dimensions as well as their contact info. He was even kind enough to send me a few ideas. (Thanks Jason, your a good friend!) With that all gathered I jump on internet to get ideas, goodness there was all kinds!! After the dizziness settled, I got an idea for what I wanted to accomplish in my quick shoot. The purpose was to capture a nice head shot for the cover.

 
So I call my good friend Owen and asked if he could assist in my shoot. He quickly was down(Thanks Owen!) and we met my cousin Krystle. She was so on point with every pose I presented her, while Owen held my reflector in what seemed the hottest day of the year!! In the end it was a success! Krystle killed the shoot, and we finished just as the sun went down. Technically I used my 18-105mm Nikkor lens for most of the shoot, later using my 30mm 1.4 Sigma lens for my closer shots. I edited all  of my shots using Adobe CS5. The composite card was a success! Due to private pics and personal information on it, I cannot share, but I will soon make a few and post on my blog. I am so thankful for my cousin and glad she was the subject of my quick shoot!

Grief....

Hello all, it has been awhile since we have last connected. I have been dealing with the term, Grief. I recently lost my grandmother, the process by which was very quick, very sudden, causing my family to instantaneously deal and grip this emotion. It is the first time I have dealt with this emotion as a photographer. I tried, and I tried to take pictures during it all, but for the first time, I could not. I tried in the hospital, I tried when we were planning for the funeral, but I could not. I brought my camera everywhere I went, but could not take many pics at all. I was not until after the service, that I picked up my camera and took a few shots. Even as I tried to to shoot, I was moved by the emotion of all those who attended my Grandmother's funeral.

I have never seen anything like this from behind my lens, but these were moments I had to capture, not for me, but for my family. I was my job to assist with the healing, it was my job to capture our bond, it was my job to capture my Grandmothers legacy. A chance for her 9 children, her 53 grandchildren, her siblings, and their family, and countless other friends and family, to be captured together, united in the memory of her love. So I snapped away. I hope I did the moments and the reflection of my Nana proud. It makes me want to know more about photography so that I can capture every moment and do it justice, and reflect the beauty of each picture I take. I love you Nana, May You Rest In Peace.

Family Fun-op...

Welcome again my friends! I know it has been awhile, but I am back to share with you all my triumphs and my struggles with this my new journey, photography.
So this past week, I am greeted with great news by my son, he proclaims to me that he is the "SUPERSTAR of the WEEK"!!! Which is a huge thing in his school, and even bigger in my house! WE JUMP FOR JOY, and make up songs about how my son is a "SUPERSTAR"!!!! After coming down from this gigantic high, he presents me with some added facts to his new his new found SUPER-STARDOM!! "Daddy you have to take a picture of me by myself, and I need a picture of you, me, and mommy together....oh and daddy i need it tomorrow". I was instantly reminded of the fact that we do not have recent pics of us all together, because I am always behind the lens! Not to mention this has to happen quick, I mean he is a SUPERSTAR now...so my brain gets to going(can we get a hand clap for that lol).
I inform the house that we are going to have to have a family shoot pronto! Wait a min here, I do not have a studio, or lights, or even a tripod!! What am I to do? So...my brain gets to moving again....(hand clap please lol) I am going to need my sb600 flash, uhm...my trusty 30mm sigma 1.4 lens, a stool, and a sheet (feel like Macgyver over here lol).
I cover up an little ottoman with a sheet, put it up against

my lightest wall and shoot my son first. The first 30 shots were not so hot, but as I adjusted the settings on my camera, things started to pick up, and boy did my son get silly, which made for great pics!!
It was working, my plan was working but I was still trying to figure out how I was going to get myself in the pic with everyone doing the process.

Next up, my son and mommy, again I got some great shots of the two of them, which seemed to make mommy emotional (Mommy's get like that when they take pics with their children, I guess Daddy's do to........crickets lol)


So moving along now....now is the challenge for me. I set up the timer on my camera, and add 3 shots per round, that way I can make sure I am not getting any closed eyes, being that I am not behind the camera. I focus everything while placing the camera on the stool, then run to make it in time. I did this time, after time, after time (talking about a workout!) till my son made it very clear that he was done the shoot. LOL who could blame him!

 At the end of it all I was happy at my first attempt of shooting on the fly without any studio aide. I was most happy with shooting my SUPERSTAR family, whom I have now introduced to you all.

A day at a D.C. Park...

Well we meet again.....I do not know if i have what you guys want, but I definitely have some fun things to share with you all. (Well at least fun to me, which as we are all finding out, is all that matters. lol For the most part that is)
OK so back to the fun stuff......This weekend I was blessed to find that a friend, and former student( please do not ask how long ago I taught her, that is just rude to a young in heart individual like myself. KNOWING I am getting OLDER is hard enough, geez lol.)
OK, so she hits me on Twitter and shares that she will not only be in town, but she wants to shoot at a park in  DC. Please understand that was music to my ears!!!!!!!
We discussed the details back and forth, and came up with a time, and a place......I WAS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!!!!! (as one of my favorite comedians Kevin Hart would say lol)


 I rushed to the appointed place and time and was met by the crew, and the subject of the shoot, Which was my friend's cousin. Wait Wait, I am so rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me introduce you to my friend Celesti! So we arrive and I am amazed by the venue. I have been in this

area of DC a thousand times and had never been in this park. There was soo much going on, and the park had beautiful structures all through the property. This was a photographers dream!! I jumped in the mix right away, and boy oh boy did I have a great time, while being serenaded by the drums all around us. The weather was great! I started the shoot with my kit lens and was snapping like a semi-automatic pistol!!!! I shot at any and everything, enjoying every moment. This again is what it is all about for me, the passion, the joy, the freedom, of capturing moments in time significant to me, so much that I want to share it with you all!! As the shoot came to a close, I pulled out my trusty 30mm 1.4 sigma lens, and just totally invaded the space of my subject, it was kool that she was kool about it. I am learning that as a photographer, you learn quickly to get in the space   of your subjects, Lol I
